Sottomarina can traditionally be divided into two parts: “Old Sottomarina” and “New Sottomarina.”
The first is located in the northwestern area. It is quite similar to the houses of nearby Chioggia and consists of a dense cluster of homes which, arranged in parallel rows and positioned transversely to the direction of the lido, stand along the edges of the Lusenzo lagoon on one side and extend all the way to the murazzi facing the sea on the other. This is the historic part of the town where, at the beginning and in the first half of the 20th century, the inhabitants of Sottomarina continued to fill every available space in this area between the lagoon and the murazzi.
Construction of “New Sottomarina,” east of the murazzi, began after World War II, and it is in this part of the lido that the “tourist-oriented Sottomarina” took shape. “
“New Sottomarina” has continued to grow over the years from the northeast toward the south, and at the far southern end today you will find most of the campsites.
In the northeastern part of the seafront, you’ll find most of the nightlife venues, restaurants, and amusement parks for young children.
In the northern part of Sottomarina, you’ll find the three main squares with numerous bars and shops.
